A new research centre focussing on Irish and European history and culture was launched in Limerick.

Delivering her lecture was Prof. Jane Ohlmeyer, Erasmus Smith’s Chair of Modern History, Trinity College Dublin, Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub, and Chair of the Irish Research Council.

The Centre for Early Modern Studies brings together experts from University of Limerick and Mary Immaculate College to further the study of the history and culture of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

The Centre for Early Modern Studies was launched with an inaugural lecture by Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, Erasmus Smith’s Chair of Modern History, Trinity College Dublin, Director of the Trinity Long Room Hub, and Chair of the Irish Research Council. Professor Ohlmeyer spoke on the topic of ‘Early Modern Ireland and the Wider World’.
